Instant Coffee Can Be Organic & Delicious
Coffee has an array of health benefits. Many readers have asked if this is true of instant organic coffee. Research that has included instant organic coffee, and the few that have exclusively focused on it, suggest that it is just as good for you.
The health benefits of coffee come mainly from its antioxidants. Despite the extra drying they go through, instant organic coffees are loaded with them.
Bulk sizes of regular and decaf instant coffee are available. Food Safety and Compliance documentation for food processors is provided including: COAs for each lot, HACCP, Third Party Audits and more. Please contact us for Product Specifications and more information.According to a paper in Food Chemistry from 2012, the way in which instant organic coffee is produced will concentrate some antioxidant compounds, including tasty flavonoids and phenols, resulting in an even ‘greater content of these substances, compared with other kinds of coffee.’
Plus, a lab study published in the same journal the following year showed that levels of the antioxidant chlorogenic acid vary little between instant organic coffees and fresh coffee. Among three instant organic coffees assessed in the research, the one that contained some green (i.e., unroasted) coffee beans had the highest chlorogenic acid levels of all.
Chlorogenic acid has been associated with positive cardiovascular effects, although the levels widely varied across the samples. In 2010, a trial published in Molecular Nutrition & Food Research discovered that healthy individuals who consumed instant organic coffee (taken from both roasted and green beans) for five days showed a substantial decrease in the biomarkers for oxidative stress. That suggests that the coffee might provide some protection against diseases connected to oxidation, such as heart disease.
Although there are inconsistencies in the results, some research, though not all, also indicated that instant organic coffee has similar blood sugar advantages to regular coffee.
For example, in 2012 research from the Journal of Nutrition & Metabolism, overweight males with mild-to-moderate blood sugar elevation, consumed 5 cups of instant organic coffee per day (decaf or regular) for four months. The men experienced modest improvements to their blood sugar levels.
In 2006 research published in Diabetes Care connected coffee to a decreased type 2 diabetes risk. Risk was also reduced when instant organic coffee was consumed, which is unsurprising as the composition of instant organic coffee is like that of filter coffee. A prior study didn’t demonstrate the same relationship, but the sample size was very small.
According to the Harvard School of Public Health, over 50% of Americans over age 18 drink coffee on a daily basis, and instant organic coffee provides a convenient alternative to brews of a traditional nature. Easy and portable to prepare, instant organic coffee additionally provides an array of health benefits, so long as you prepare it properly.
Low in Calories
Integrating instant organic coffee into a diet may assist in whittling your waistline. One standard 6 oz. cup of instant organic coffee, served black, has a negligible four calories.
Swapping in coffee for additional beverages may assist you in losing weight. For instance, consuming plain instant organic coffee rather than one cup of orange juice each day would save nearly 40,000 calories over one year — the equivalent of over 11 lbs. Substituting an instant organic coffee for one can of coke three times per week would translate to around 6.5 lbs lost over the course of 1 year.
Healthy Hydration
According to the University of Florida, caffeine-containing beverages are nearly as hydrating as plain water, so the instant organic coffee you consume will count toward your overall fluid consumption levels. Remaining hydrated assists in maintaining a healthy body temperature, and will play a part in digestion and kidney function, helping to remove waste products from the body. You should still drink water though.
High in Antioxidants
Instant organic coffee is a step ahead of other preparations when it comes to antioxidants. Those beneficial chemicals will form the body’s natural defense against free radicals, and keep your cell membranes and DNA free of damage.
A 2012 study published in “Food Chemistry” discovered that instant organic coffee contained higher levels of active antioxidants than coffee made through other methods of brewing. Unfortunately, those effects were reduced when milk was added.
Serving Suggestions and Tips
For optimal health benefits, consume your instant organic coffee black and unsweetened. This will keep your cup low in calories.
Every package of sugar, for example, contains 12 calories, whereas a teaspoon and a half will add 20. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, you should restrict your overall coffee consumption to two to three cups per day regardless of whether it is instant or not. Any more than that, and you’ll risk drinking too much caffeine, which can lead to jitters and disrupt your sleeping cycle.
If you also are drinking additional caffeine-containing food sources – such as cola, chocolate, or tea – restrict your instant organic coffee consumption even more or simply change to decaf instant.
